SORMA West 2016 is the 16th in a series of technical meetings dealing with ionizing radiation and its applications. The SORMA conference series began in 1964, and at first was convened ever four to five years at its University of Michigan home. As radiation detectors increased in number, variety, and societal importance, SORMA West was added so that the forum would be available every two years.
SORMA 2014 in Ann Arbor, Michigan represented the full breadth of ionizing radiation measurement applications and technologies. For SORMA West 2016, we are taking a different approach. With the significant investments and technology demonstrations in radiation detection for homeland and national security applications in the last decade, the SORMA West 2016 Organizing Committee has decided to focus the entire symposium exclusively on these applications — their challenges, the recent advances, and the lessons learned throughout these recent demonstrations.
